The Manes Art & Education Center at the Nassau County Museum of Art provides a learning space committed to engaging members of our community in visual art experiences by providing a gateway to the creative process. Once the Millstone Lab for science and paleontology studies for Childs Frick, this newly refurbished building offers a dynamic and inspiring environment in which audiences of all ages and abilities can find creative engagement through a variety of activities, projects, and talks. With art on view, two art studios, a reading room, and an outdoor classroom, children, families, and adults will have the opportunity to enjoy programs that include traditional and contemporary forms of art processes and art education. The Manes Center is located on the grounds of the Nassau County Museum of Art. It is the first building on the left after entering the Museum grounds from Northern Boulevard with a mural by artist Kenny Scharf.

The Millstone Reading Lab

Located inside The Manes Art Education Center, the Millstone Reading Lab, once an office and science lab of Childs Frick, provides museum visitors and art class participants of all ages with a quiet space for reflection, learning, and discovery. Lined with original wood paneling and brass-framed glass doors from the 1920s, this art reference library houses books from antiquities to contemporary art from across the globe, along with beautifully illustrated children’s books and discovery toys for young visitors.
